What is Drop by Drop?

Drop by Drop is Caminos de Agua’s monthly giving program. The water we collect in rainwater harvesting systems, or the clean drinking water that comes out of our filters or treatment plants, is pooled together – drop by drop – to create a continuous supply of clean water. Inspired by these processes, our Drop by Drop program highlights how small actions can come together to make a major difference in people's lives.

By giving, every month, you join many others in creating a continuous, collective impact. This helps us to better plan, which, in turn, allows us to become more efficient while creating on-going change in the water crisis and in the lives of real people. Each drop and every action are like drops of clean drinking water, pooling together. With every drop we collect, communities grow stronger and healthier.

Little by little your help, combined with the help of others, can transform a few drops into a plentiful stream of possibilities for our community.

Doing our work is hard, we made providing support easy.

Make your commitment today.

Our Regional Water Situation

The Upper Río Laja Watershed stretches across seven municipalities in northern Guanajuato State in Central Mexico. Ninety-nine percent of the water consumed in this region comes from a large underground reservoir known as the Alto Río Laja Aquifer, which serves several thousand distinct communities – including San Miguel de Allende. The aquifer supplies water to over 680,000 residents. Our aquifer is declining at an alarming rate, from 2-3 meters per year. The underground water that remains is contaminated with arsenic and fluoride – up to 14 times World Health Organization recommendations – known to cause developmental disabilities in children, crippling skeletal fluorosis, organ failure, and cancer.

WHAT DOES MY DONATION DO?

We’re not going to take your generous donation and run. Through Drop by Drop, we are making a commitment to you, to keep you informed about what we’re doing and where we’re going. Any level of monthly giving will automatically enroll you in our new monthly bulletin, where we will be updating you on our current work while also giving you the opportunity to dive deeper and learn more about individual subjects surrounding our programs, projects, philosophies, the local and global water crisis, and other pertinent topics that are likely to have an effect on you.

In the future, as Drop by Drop grows, we will be offering new ways for you to get involved and to stay informed, like advanced invites to our digital and physical events, virtual tours of our projects and spaces, and live broadcasts from projects in the communities where we work.

Here’s how we use your donation:

For $25 a month:

  • At this level, every month your subscription provides an entire day of educational programming in local communities suffering from severe water quality and scarcity issues, a critical part of building awareness so families and communities can  confront the growing water crisis.

For $50 a month:

  • Your subscription helps us to step up the distribution of our award-winning Aguadapt ceramic water filters that remove 99.99% of biological pathogens from stored water and are a crucial final component of our Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Treatment Systems. In fact, at this level, you will provide a new family an Aguadapt water filter every single month, supplying them with 3 years of guaranteed safe drinking water.

For $100 a month:

  • At this level, your commitment helps us to expand drinking water access on a much more significant scale. You help both our Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Treatment System projects get off the ground in new communities. With this level of contribution, you will be responsible for building a full, large-scale rainwater harvesting system nearly every year, providing an entire family a life-time of clean drinking water!
